Student need to make new friends at the new place which is far from home and family because student need to stay in the hostel that university provide at least for 1 sem. There also many new things every student needs to know and adapt with new environment in university life.

The VAK learning style

The learning style are put together by a system which is VAK. VAK stands for visual, audio and kinesthetic (tactile). the theory is one prefers to learn through one of these sense channels.

By answering the quiz from the link below:

As a tactile learner or commonly referred to as Kinesthetic Learners, are hands-on learners. This some suggestion can help me to succeed in school:

  • Participate in activities that involve touching, building, moving, or drawing.
  • Do lots of hands-on activities like completing art projects, taking walks, or acting out stories.
  • Use flashcards and arrange them in groups to show relationships between ideas.
  • Trace words with your finger to learn spelling (finger spelling).
  • Take frequent breaks during reading or studying periods (frequent, but not long).

8 steps to university success

  •  Attend all classes - One of the best ways to successful in the college is to attend classes. This is important because most of the test question will come from lecturer.
  • Become an active learnerWe cannot just read the book or notes couple of time but we must write and recite the information to get it into long-term memory.
  • Participate in classBe an active person in class such as give the feedback about the subject that being taught and ask the question to the lecturer.
  • Get to know your lecturersAs students, we should know who our lecturers especially their names.
  • Forms study groups with friends - This is one of the good strategies to success in college. Students can remember the points easier and can make the discussion with friends easily.
  • Stay up to date with your workWe should never procrastinated out work. So we can catch up other things and always stay up to date.
  • Be receptive to changeDo some change in our study strategies. It’s could be better to do some change if not we can’t never see how our performance being.
  • Work hard every semesterIt’s important to us to always set in our mind to the our best and work hard to something that we want to archive.

TOPIC 2: GOAL SETTING

What is goal?

- Goal is something you want to achieve.

 What is goal setting?

 - Goal setting is a process for thinking about your ideal future and for motivating yourself to turn this vision of the future into reality.

Characteristic of goals

Specific: Your goal needs to be clear and well defined. Vague goals are not helpful because they don’t provide you with sufficient guidance and direction and in order to be helpful, you need to set goals that will show you the way to successfully achieving these goals.

Measurable: Include precise amounts or dates to your goal so you can measure your progress. You need to be able to quantify your progress or at least suggest an indicator of progress. For example, if your goal is to “reduce expenses”, how will you know if you have been successful? If you set your goals to reduce expenses by 1% in a month’s time, you will be able to see if you’ve reached that goal and celebrate once you’ve achieved it.

Attainable: You want to set goals that are challenging but also achievable. If you set a goal that you have no chance of achieving, it can erode your confidence. On the other hand, you don’t want to set a goal that’s too easy to achieve. You need to set goals that “raise the bar”, therefore once you achieve these goals that you had to really work towards, it’ll be worthwhile.

Relevance: Setting goals should be relevant to what it is you want to achieve in both your personal life and career life. By setting goals that are follow this rule will help you focus on what you need to do to get ahead and achieve this goal.

Time-related: You need to specify when you need to achieve this goal and set a deadline. When you are working on a deadline, your sense of urgency increases and it will push you closer towards achieving your goal.

5 step approach to setting goals

  • Tentative goals statement
  • list of obstacles
  • list of resources
  • revive goals statement
  • polished goals statement

Long-term and short-term goals

  • Long-term goals is the objective of the goals that you set end of the year for yourself for four or five years from now, or even for a lifetime.
  • Short-term goals we can set for an hour from now, end of day or semester.

TOPIC 3: TIME MANAGEMENT

Definition

  • time - time the indefinite continued progress of existence and events in the past , presence and future.
  • time management -time management is the ability to we once time effectively of productivity especially work.

Reducing procrastination

  • Procrastination is the deliberate postponement of doing something that needs to be done. It is a psychological trait that permits a person to postpone a task or activity. For many people, procrastination is a source of significant worry and anxiety.
